Legal Assistant/Receptionist - Media, PA

Part-time or full-time
Salary:
Part time starting at $18/hr depending on experience
Full time salary negotiated depending on experience

Law office experience is preferred!

Qualifications

Applicant must be able to answer phones, schedule and manage hearings and appointments for the attorney and handle collection of fees. Knowledge of drafting basic petitions, motions, decrees and orders as well as drafting discovery and discovery responses using templates would be a plus, but not a requirement if Applicant is motivated to learn these skills. Excellent telephone demeanor is a must. Applicant should know something about legal billing or case management software. Prior experience working at a courthouse or legal setting is considered a plus.

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Draft, edit, proofread, and/or file correspondence, court documents, agreements.
  • Assist in coordinating internal and external meetings/communications.
  • Coordinate with attorneys daily/manage running list of projects/status, needs and priorities.
  • Document management and organization.
  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
  • Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures. (templates used)
  • Communicate with clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements.
  • Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
  • Assist attorneys with hearing/trial preparation.
  • Develop and maintain records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
  • Answer calls and scheduling consultations, hearings, depositions, mediations etc.
  • Collects payments from clients and keep track of the billing.
  • Orders supplies for the office
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Paralegal - Non-exempt Position

At Becket & Lee, LLP, our legal team is a driving force behind our continued success. We’re in search of a paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate should have strong writing skills and experience in drafting letters and pleadings. A working knowledge of current Bankruptcy Law is preferred, but not required.

Key Responsibilities may include, but would not limited to:

  • Provide case-specific assistance on a wide range of assignments related to bankruptcy matters, and assist other paralegals and attorneys when necessary to meet firm needs.
  • Draft legal correspondence, including letters, motions, case-specific reports, preparation of appendices and exhibits, evaluation and maintaining electronic files.
  • Locate, evaluate, and compile relevant resources and documentation to support pleadings/arguments.
  • Analyze banking and other business records.
  • Review of mail, plans, dockets, etc.
  • Research and investigating the facts of cases and identifying appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to each case.
  • Draft, revise, and finalize filings, and assist with their submission to appropriate entities.
  • Communicate client and with local counsel.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree, or experience in bankruptcy matters
  • Excellent communication, writing and analytical skills
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent judgment and demonstrated discretion handling confidential information
  • Proficiency working in the MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook and Word)
  • Proven ability to work in a highly dynamic environment and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong ability to work efficiently and effectively with time-sensitive materials
