Interpreting Programs

What you’ll need to apply:

  • COMPLETED APPLICATION (pdf)
  • Letter of recommendation
    • Letter shall be original and signed, and from professors, employers, or others familiar with applicant's academic and/or professional qualifications.
    • Letter shall be sent via email from the recommender to DelawareLawGICLS@widener.edu.

  • For the Community, Health, and Legal Interpreting program only, an OPI score (or equivalent) shall be submitted.

If you have already attended one of our interpreter programs and wish to attend a subsequent program, there is no need to complete a new application. Please email your request to DelawareLawGICLS@widener.edu.

Legal Studies

Legal Studies Programs

What you’ll need to apply:

  • Completed online application. You will be directed to Widener University’s application portal.
  • $35 non-refundable application fee.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
    • If you have not yet obtained 60 college credits, an official high school transcript is required.
  • Employment history.
  • One letter of recommendation.
    • Letter shall be from professors, employers, or others familiar with applicant's academic and/or professional qualifications.
  • Personal statement
    • Please share why you wish to pursue a degree in the field you have selected with emphasis on how you think this degree will further your professional and/or personal goals. Please limit this essay to one page, single-spaced.

International Admissions
  • Submit your official transcripts from all college/university post-secondary institutions. A course-by-course credential evaluation completed by a NACES certified organization will be accepted if the transcript is not in the English language.
  • Fulfill the English Proficiency requirements:
    • Applicants whose first language is not English shall submit test results for English competency, as described below, unless you are from a TOEFL-exempt country. Test results shall be within two years of application submission. It is not necessary to submit more than one test result.
      • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum TOEFL score of 83 iBt is required for admission.
      • International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 is required for admission.
      • Duolingo. A minimum Duolingo score of 110 is required for admission.
        Widener Standardized Test Code: 2642 To send Duolingo English Test (DET) scores, select Widener from the drop-down menu after you have completed the test.

    • o Candidates shall submit an essay explaining why they are seeking the LLM degree from Delaware Law and how this degree will advance their professional objectives. This essay may include reference to a specific position that the applicant seeks to attain or to an area of law where the applicant plans to make a notable contribution. Please limit this essay to one single-spaced page.
  • Résumé or Curriculum Vitae
  • Proof of Competency in English
    • Applicants whose first language is not English shall submit test results for English competency, as described below, unless you are from a TOEFL-exempt country. Applicants must have taken the TOEFL or IELTS within two years of submitting their application. It is not necessary to submit more than one test result.
    • Waiver of Proof of Competency in English. Proof of competency in English may be waived if applicants have received a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution in a TOEFL-exempt country. To request the waiver, please include your most recent TOEFL or IELTS score (if any) on the application and submit the transcript from the degree program that meets the above criteria. If a waiver is granted, applicants will not need to re-take the TOEFL or IELTS or submit an official score.
    • To request an English language proficiency waiver, please complete the English Language Proficiency Test Waiver form and submit it to DelawareLawGICLS@widener.edu.

The substance of the proposal should: (a) demonstrate the creative and independent thinking of the candidate; (b) indicate the importance of the proposal in law; and (c) indicate the methodology the candidate expects to use in the development of the dissertation.
    • The proposal shall be in the range of 2,500 to 3,000 words (approximately 10-15 pages) in length, double-spaced, with Times New Roman 12-point font, and 1-inch margins on all sides, with a bibliography attached (the bibliography is not included in the page count).
